I’m a Sydney-based photographer specialising in:
- architecture and interiors
- residential properties, property developments & investments
- commercial and office spaces
- restaurants, bars and cafes
- hotels and resorts
I grew up in Bowral – a beautiful country town with the dual claims to fame of being the home of cricket legend Don Bradman and the annual tulip festival. Bowral is also one of the many locations throughout Australia and the world that I’ve photographed- refining my digital photography skills in the landscape, seascape and cityscape genres over the past decade.
I studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the University of Wollongong, majoring in photography, painting and drawing. I gained an even greater appreciation for art materials when I studied a Masters in Art Conservation at the University of Melbourne.
My experience in the visual arts sector has a strong impact on how I approach photography. I focus on the importance of natural light, tone and colour. This can definitely be attributed to the hundreds of hours mixing paints on a palette with guidance from Dutch painter Jelle Van Den Berg, along with the countless hours in the photography dark room under the watchful eye of photographer Jacky Redgate. My youth spent in the dark room (in the dark ages before digital photography…) informs the intuitive nature of my image making today.
My approach to creating photographs for my clients is to showcase a scene in its best light; after all, photography is painting with light. I like to spend time getting to know a space and the way light will pass through and interact with it. In my images, I focus on natural ambient light whenever possible, only using artificial light to highlight the available natural light. I love to use warm afternoon light to create deep shadows, and to shoot at sunset and the blue hour, when colours and light will add more impact.
